{"id":400,"date":"2026-07-03T17:31:23","date_gmt":"2026-07-03T17:31:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/anticorruptionawarenessorganizationnigeria.org.ng\/?p=400"},"modified":"2026-07-03T17:31:23","modified_gmt":"2026-07-03T17:31:23","slug":"before-women-were-common-in-nigerian-lecture-halls-professor-grace-alele-williams-ofr-had-already-changed-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/anticorruptionawarenessorganizationnigeria.org.ng\/?p=400","title":{"rendered":"Before women were common in Nigerian lecture halls, Professor Grace Alele-Williams (OFR) had already changed history."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Before women were common in Nigerian lecture halls, Professor Grace Alele-Williams (OFR) had already changed history.<\/p>\n<p>Born on 16 December 1932 to an Itsekiri mother and an Owan father from Sobe, Edo State, went on to become one of Africa\u2019s greatest academic trailblazers.<\/p>\n<p>From Government School, Warri, to Queen\u2019s College, Lagos, she earned a degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Ibadan before obtaining her Master\u2019s degree from the University of Vermont, USA, and a PhD in Mathematics Education from the University of Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>In 1976, she became Nigeria\u2019s first female Professor of Mathematics at the University of Lagos, proving that excellence knows no gender.<\/p>\n<p>Then came another historic milestone.<\/p>\n<p>In 1985, Professor Grace Alele-Williams became Nigeria\u2019s first female Vice-Chancellor, leading the University of Benin with vision, discipline, and integrity. Her leadership transformed lives and inspired countless young women to dream beyond society\u2019s expectations.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>A national icon whose impact still echoes through classrooms, lecture theatres, and boardrooms across Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Grace Alele-Williams passed away on 25 March 2022 at the age of 89, but her legacy remains timeless.<\/p>\n<p>She taught mathematics, but her greatest lesson was that no dream is too big for the Nigerian woman \u2764\ufe0f<\/p>\n<p>Rest well, Professor Grace Alele-Williams.
