Sobe sons and daughters in the United Kingdom call for unity, political consciousness and strategic participation in the affairs of their homeland
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — August 2, 2026:The Sobe Community in the United Kingdom has renewed its call for greater unity, political consciousness and strategic participation in the affairs of Sobe, Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State.
The call was made during the Sobe Community UK Annual Picnic, held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at The Boating House, Regent’s Park, London, where members gathered for relaxation, cultural fellowship and discussions on the future of their homeland.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr. Eric Olu Imiere highlighted key issues discussed by members. According to him, the event also served as a platform to reflect on unity, political direction and development in Sobe.
POLITICAL PARTICIPATION TAKES CENTRE STAGE
A major highlight of the gathering was the discussion on the political direction of Sobe.
Members emphasised the urgent need for greater political consciousness and active participation among Sobe sons and daughters.
The discussions focused on how the community can collectively influence the political direction of its homeland and ensure that Sobe’s interests are adequately represented in decision-making.
Members stressed the importance of moving beyond complaints and becoming more organised and strategic in political engagement.
UNITY AS A FOUNDATION FOR DEVELOPMENT
The issue of unity also featured prominently during the discussions.
Members agreed that a divided community would struggle to attract meaningful development or influence decisions affecting its people.
They therefore called for stronger cooperation between Sobe residents at home and those in the diaspora.
The gathering reinforced the need to put aside personal differences and work towards a common vision for progress.

The forthcoming Sobe Day Celebrations 2026 was also discussed.
Members deliberated on ways to make the celebration successful and inclusive, providing an opportunity for cultural reunion and community reflection.
