The Mayor of Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Hon. Chimezie James Obi, has restated his administration’s dedication to good governance, transparency, and accountability during the Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Awareness Programme held at the Ekwusigo Secretariat.
The event was chaired by Comrade Solomon Anagboso Chinweuba and brought together community leaders, youth representatives, civil society advocates, stakeholders, and residents in a collective effort to promote justice, integrity, and respect for fundamental human rights within the local government area.

Also speaking, Hon. Obi stressed the need for citizens to actively resist corruption and all forms of abuse of public trust. He noted that sustainable development is only possible in an environment where honesty, fairness, and accountability are upheld.
The Mayor reaffirmed that his administration remains committed to people-focused leadership and ethical governance. He added that public trust can only be preserved through responsible leadership and the active involvement of citizens in governance.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Comrade Solomon Anagboso Chinweuba, underscored the importance of continuous public sensitization on human rights and anti-corruption principles. He emphasized that societal progress depends on collective responsibility and called on residents, particularly the youth, to serve as ambassadors of integrity and positive change in their communities.
The programme provided a platform to educate the public on the dangers of corruption, the importance of upholding human dignity, and the role citizens play in building a just, peaceful, and accountable society.
Participants described the initiative as timely and commendable, noting that it represents a significant step toward strengthening ethical values, promoting unity, and advancing sustainable development in Ekwusigo Local Government Area.
The event was attended by a representative of the Commissioner of Police and other dignitaries, who also lent their voices to calls for greater transparency, justice, and civic responsibility.
